Royalties for Regions

Country Age Pension Fuel Card

The Royalties for Regions Country Age Pension Fuel Card Scheme provides $500 a year, over four years, for eligible country pensioners to purchase fuel (i.e. petrol, autogas and diesel) and taxi fares.

Public transport services in the country are not as comprehensive as in metropolitian areas, requiring country pensioners to rely more on private travel by car or taxi, creating an additional cost burden. The Country Age Pension Fuel Card will help address this.

Royalties for Regions provided $23.5 million to eligible country pensioners to reduce travel costs in 2011/12. In 2011/12 $26 million has been allocated for the Country Age Pension Fuel Card Scheme.

In February 2011 Brendon Grylls MLA presented the 40,000th Country Age Pension Fuel Card to Alicia Manolas. An estimated 45,000 country pensioners who receive the Age pension, Carer Payment, Disability Support Pension, Wife Pension or Widow B Pension, Department of Veterans' Affairs Service Pension, Social Security Age Pension or Income Support Supplement are eligible for the card.
