After more than five years planning, the Ravensthorpe community celebrated on Friday the official opening of its new facilities at the Ravensthorpe Golf and Bowling Club.

The project was funded with $250,000 from the Shire of Ravensthorpe’s Country Local Government Fund allocation, and the Shire’s direct funding of $40,000. Ravensthorpe Shire was allocated $650,852 in the last allocation of Country Local Government funding, which is a Royalties for Regions initiative.

The new facilities include installation of a synthetic bowling green and clubhouse extensions. The bowling rink is low maintenance, all weather use. The clubhouse has been renovated and the kitchen extended.
Ms Duncan said the Country Local Government Fund was part of the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program which aimed to provide long term regional development support to ensure strong and vibrant communities.
“Royalties for Regions is allocated by local decision making according to local priorities and I congratulate the people of Ravensthorpe for making this upgrade possible,” Ms Duncan said.
She noted that the project would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of the friends and members of the Ravensthorpe Golf and Bowling Club who raised more than $20,000 and contributed hundreds of volunteer hours.
“On occasions such as this it is often overlooked that these projects, which are so important to our regional communities, would not come about were it not for community minded people dedicated to ensuring that country people have access to these wonderful facilities,” Ms Duncan said.
