$100,000 in seed funding to develop Mid West Sports Academy
Academy to develop sporting talent in the region
The future sporting champions of the Mid-West won’t have to travel so far from home for top level coaching and support following the announcement of funding to help develop a sport academy in the region.
Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron today announced the State Government would contribute $100,000 as seed funding to help develop a Mid West Sports Academy.
“The Government shares the Mid-West community’s excitement at the idea of getting an academy established in the region, and this funding to the Mid West Sports Federation follows our long-time involvement in the project,” Mr Waldron said.
“From here, we will continue to work with the community to establish the exact nature of an academy, what it would look like and how best to support the region’s talent.
“It’s crucial that in this phase we develop athletes, coaches, competitions and officials. I’m looking forward to our department assisting with this.”
The Minister acknowledged the project partners’ support and funding toward the project, in particular the City of Greater Geraldton.
“It’s been great working with the City of Greater Geraldton, which itself has contributed $75,000 to the establishment of the academy,” he said.
“We will continue to work closely with the Mid West Sports Federation, the Mid West Development Commission, the city and other stakeholders to ensure that any academy if established not only gets off to a good start, but is also sustainable and provides future wins for sport in the Mid-West.”
