Member for Geraldton Kirrilee Warr MLA is calling for the Cook Labor Government to conduct proper planning to ensure fuel bowsers stay open in Geraldton.
Ms Warr said locals, as well as the farming, fishing, and mining industries within Geraldton were feeling the pinch due to the conflict overseas.
“There are concerns in Geraldton that our fuel supplies are under threat,” she said.
“We have already seen prices spike throughout the region, and reports have emerged where retailers have run out of fuel.
“It feels like the hose is being stood on, and the State Government needs to ensure fuel supplies will continue to be distributed to regional areas.”
Having a strong farming community throughout the electorate, Ms Warr shared the concerns held by Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Food Lachlan Hunter MLA amid concerns of supply chain issues.
“Our farmers work hard throughout the year, but are being let down by issues out of their control,” Ms Warr said.
“The lack of supply could mean our farmers can’t work, which ultimately affects what Western Australians consume.
“This issue is a warning sign, and more needs to be done to ensure fuel security.”
Amid the fuel security roundtable on Wednesday, Ms Warr urged the State Government to ensure regional voices had their fair say on the situation.
“We welcome the roundtable for discussion on fuel security, but it’s disappointing the
Premier decided to politicise the issue by not extending an invitation to the Opposition Leader or the Leader of the Nationals WA,” she said.
