Member for Geraldton Kirrilee Warr MLA says the State Government’s announcement to deliver safer roads has fallen short of the mark in Geraldton.
While funding was included for some roads within the City of Greater Geraldton and the Shire of Northampton, nothing was available for the Geraldton-Mt Magnet Road.
Ms Warr said it was a disappointing result for the community.
“The road improvements within the area are welcomed, but there are important projects that have been missed,” she said.
“$225m is what was needed to make all the safety improvements recommended for Geraldton-Mt Magnet Road, and not a cent was included in this announcement.
“When will the State Government acknowledge this is a road that is in desperate need of upgrades to ensure safety for the Geraldton and wider Mid West communities?”
Geraldton-Mt Magnet Road ranked tenth in RAC’s top 10 risky regional roads, highlighted in the results as being of poor surface quality, lacking overtaking opportunities, and tight curves.
Meanwhile, no funding was available for Chapman Valley Road, which previously featured in the survey.
Ms Warr echoed comments made by Shadow Minister for Road Safety Julie Freeman MLC, saying targeted action was needed.
