Nationals WA Member for Central Wheatbelt, Mr Lachlan Hunter MP, has been appointed as the Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Food, and Shadow Minister for Racing and Gaming in the Zempilas Love Opposition.
Mr Hunter expressed his sincere gratitude to Shane Love MLA, Leader of The Nationals, for entrusting him with the responsibility of these important portfolios.
“Agriculture is truly in my DNA. My family has been farming in the Wheatbelt for over a century.”
“From my first job in plant breeding to working with CBH, being involved in the live animal export industry, and advising the Commonwealth Government on agricultural policy, I’ve had the privilege of working in this vital sector,” Mr Hunter said.
“The Central Wheatbelt is one of the state’s leading producers of agricultural exports, and I am dedicated to further strengthening this vital sector while unlocking the immense growth potential of agriculture across our state.”
Mr Hunter also acknowledged the importance of the Racing and Gaming portfolio, highlighting their integral role in supporting regional communities.
“Racing and Gaming are essential industries that help build and sustain local communities.
“It’s crucial that we maintain balanced and practical policies that support these industries while preserving the traditions that are so important to regional Western Australia,” he said.
Mr Hunter looks forward to working alongside Western Australians, stakeholders, and industry leaders to hold the Cook Labor Government to account, always prioritising the interests of regional communities.
“I am determined to advocate for policies that reflect the needs and aspirations of our communities, and to ensure the ongoing prosperity of the agricultural, racing, and gaming sectors,” he said.
