The Nationals WA have pledged $4.85 million to fund the design and construction of a new multipurpose recreation and evacuation centre for the Boyup Brook community.
Nationals WA candidate for Warren-Blackwood, Bevan Eatts, made the announcement in Boyup Brook today, alongside Shadow Minister for Sport and Recreation Peter Rundle MLA and community representatives.
“Boyup Brook is a strong, vibrant regional community, but it lacks modern recreational infrastructure,” Mr Eatts said.
“Residents often have to travel long distances just to access basic sports facilities, community meeting spaces, or wellness programs. That’s a major barrier for young people, seniors, and families who can’t always afford or manage the travel.”
The $4.85 million commitment, funded by Royalties for Regions, will fully fund Phase One of the project, creating a modern, fit-for-purpose facility that serves as both a recreational hub and emergency evacuation centre.
“This facility will feature a meeting room, commercial kitchen, upgraded ablutions and new club change rooms, making it an accessible and inclusive space for people of all abilities,” Mr Eatts said.
“The centre will be a vital place for sports, community events, concerts, and meetings, while also providing a safe refuge during natural disasters like bushfires.”
Mr Eatts said the project has strong community backing, with support from local sporting clubs, the high school, and the Country Music Club of Boyup Brook.
“This facility isn’t just about sport, it’s about building resilience, strengthening community connections, and creating a shared space that the whole town can be proud of,” Mr Eatts said.
Mr Eatts said The Nationals WA were also supportive of Phase Two of the project, which would include an indoor multipurpose court and youth centre.
Shadow Minister for Sport and Recreation Peter Rundle MLA praised Mr Eatts for his advocacy and said The Nationals WA are committed to improving regional sporting infrastructure.
“With 15 sporting clubs across the Shire of Boyup Brook, sport is at the heart of this community, but it’s time for a modern, dedicated facility to match that passion,” Mr Rundle said.
“Sport and recreation bring people together, boost mental and physical health, and strengthen the social fabric of regional communities. The Nationals WA will ensure Boyup Brook has the facilities it needs to thrive.”
Boyup Brook Sport and Recreation Association President Tara Reid also welcomed the commitment.
“This new facility will foster community pride, bring people together, and provide meaningful social interaction for locals and visitors alike,” Ms Reid said.
