Member for Geraldton Kirrilee Warr MLA has spoken in Parliament to condemn the State Government for its failures in the health system, saying Geraldton has been overlooked for too long.
The motion was on the back of record ambulance ramping, metropolitan hospital failures, and neglected regional health services.
Ms Warr told Parliament on Tuesday regional health was an issue which continued to worsen under the Cook Labor Government.
“When people stop me on the street, it always comes back to these three things; families struggling to find a home, patients waiting weeks for an appointment, and a hospital redevelopment that’s years behind schedule,” she said.
“And who has the Premier put in charge of health infrastructure? The very same Minister who has failed to increase Government Regional Officer Housing in eight long years.
“The same Minister is now responsible for delivering a Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment that is already overdue and well over budget.”
Ms Warr told Parliament the State Government’s priorities were not in the right place.
She called for pet projects like the Burswood Racetrack to be scrapped, with the $217.5m to go towards projects the State needs, like the outstanding health issues in Geraldton.
“Labor promised $7.5 million for a new Royal Flying Doctor Service base and primary health hub. But that’s only half of what the RFDS asked for, and not a cent of it has turned up in the Budget,” Ms Warr said.
“Labor also promised a $21 million radiation oncology service for Geraldton. So far, there’s just $1 million in new funding allocated.
“And after eight long years, the Mullewa Community Hospital has only made it back on the agenda thanks to The Nationals WA.”
Ms Warr vowed to continue to advocate for the community to achieve real health outcomes.
